NEW COMPUTER LEARNING MONTH EVENT KIT PROVIDES

PALO ALTO, Calif., (August 14, 1998) -- The Computer Learning Foundation announced today the release of a new Computer Learning Month Event Kit (Item No. E9860) to help schools and community organizations plan and host local events during Computer Learning Month. Computer Learning Month events help others in the local community learn more about using technology with children and can help schools gain greater support for their efforts.

The new Computer Learning Month Event Kit includes a Computer Learning Month Promotion Kit with banners and posters, along with an Event Planning Guide to help people plan an event and the Community Relations Kit to help them promote their event and do other public outreach. The Event Kit also includes handouts for attendees, including 20 copies of Everything You Need to Know (But Were Afraid to Ask Kids) About the Information Highway, Preparing for a Career in the 21st Century and Young Kids and Computers: A Parent's Survival Guide. The Event Kit also includes special offers for parents and a book display to use at events, all for $69.95 plus $29.00 shipping and handling (California orders, add $5.77 sales tax).

Everything You Need to Know (But Were Afraid to Ask Kids) About the Information Highway introduces parents to the terminology they need to know to get started using the Internet, describes the benefits of the Internet for children, provides suggestions on how to select an Internet Service Provider or online service, discusses child safety issues, netiquette and how to set guidelines with children, and includes over 50 pages of online activities and recommended sites for children to visit on the World Wide Web, organized by age group. Preparing for a Career in the 21st Century is a 36-page booklet that describes ways computers are used as tools in numerous careers, including business, education, journalism, medicine and more. In addition, this booklet provides suggestions on how to begin preparing today.

Young Kids and Computers is a new 96-page paperback book written by the editors of Children's Software Revue. This book includes information on how to select a computer and software for children, information on the best software for children and ratings and information on of over 700 software titles for elementary school children.
